Blogger Spotlight: Kristylle Gene of Kris Wanders
It’s the first day of the LOVE month and we are excited to introduce our first featured blogger for February. She is on a constant pursuit of finding and discovering such enticing and interesting places. She find blogging as an online sanctuary and a place where she can share her travels and adventures.
Ladies and gents, let’s meet Kristylle Gene, the certified wanderlust and blogger behind Kris Wanders.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND HOW YOU GOT INTO BLOGGING?
Kristylle Gene: Most of my friends call me Kris. The ones who are super close to me would call me tyl-tyl. I’m a licensed nurse, however, I’m not practicing the profession at this time. I’m currently a Customer Experience Analyst/Quality Analyst in one of the BPO companies here in Cebu city. I got into blogging because I like the idea of having my own personal space in the web where I can share my experiences and post my shots. I don’t want a bulk of photos to be shared at once on a social media site because the quality of the photos deteriorates and it’s hard to share your experiences in one single post. My partner who’s a web developer (and very supportive.. haha!) then introduced wordpress.com, he taught me the basics and I love the idea. I guess that’s how I got into blogging. It started as a personal want that became a passion. Naks!
WHERE DID YOU GET THE IDEA OF YOUR BLOG’S NAME?
Kristylle Gene: Kriswanders. I just simply combined “Kris” which is my name and “wander”, because I always wander in pursuit of finding beautiful places around me. With the city life’s busy schedule, I tried to find time to be on my “happy place”. My happy place is different from one weekend to another though, it depends on where my feet take me. A place where I can unwind and take photos for my blog. hehe! I may have gotten far from the question but that’s basically it, I love to wander, so it’s Kriswanders.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BLOGGING?
Kristylle Gene: I love the idea of having a personal space where I can say that “yep, that’s mine.”, I guess that’s mainly because why I got into blogging on the first place. Blogging also made me revisit the love of writing and made me discover a new passion, which is photography. I’m not not an expert of both but I’m trying to be better on what I do. 🙂 Another thing that I love about blogging is I get to share my experiences to those who visited the blog. I get to virtually meet and interact new people through comments. It made me feel less of an introvert. Haha!
WHAT IS THE FOCUS OF YOUR BLOG AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THAT NICHE?
Kristylle Gene: I am more into travel. Not the grandeur ones but the personal weekend or short vacation trips/getaways. I’m not good with itineraries, that’s for sure. My blog focuses more on the experience that any traveler may possibly encounter, as well as what the place has to offer. I post a lot of photos because I think it would be best if my readers would know what to expect, visually speaking. I am now leaning towards travel photography niche though, because I can easily incorporate that on what I love doing so I’m sure I can sustain that type of content right now. 🙂
NAME 5 OF YOUR FAVORITE BLOGGERS AND AND WHY
1. Rea of Blissful Snapshots
2. Kiersten of The Blond Abroad
3. Gael of Pinay Solo Backpacker
4. John of Four Eyed Laagan
5. Ariel “Lai” of The Little Lai
Kiersten and Gael are amazing on how they were able to monetize their blog
Rea resonates the idea of “content is king”
Before I got into blogging, I had several visits of their (John & Ariel) sites when they were both building their names and now they have grown to be award winning bloggers.
Kristylle Gene: My Top 5 favorite bloggers inspire me to keep going and hone my craft. Their blogs remind me that my blog is not just a personal space. It opens a lot of opportunities if I keep going and doing what I love doing.
5 TOOLS YOU USE WITH YOUR BLOGGING
- WordPress
- Lightroom
- Hero4
- Nikon D5500
- Sony RX-100
WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION FOR YOUR BLOG POSTS?
Kristylle Gene: Hmm.. I’m not really sure. Sometimes, the idea just pops out. Haha! I usually read other travel blogs though, wherein I can mostly relate to. Reading different blogs with the same niche would give me an idea on how I can write a specific post. Sometimes I just look at my photos and a flicker of idea just come around the corner.
BESIDES BLOGGING, WHAT OTHER INTERESTS DO YOU HAVE?
Kristylle Gene: Aside from blogging, I usually take random photos. I also have a thing about crafting, mostly accessory making. Aside from sunsets I am a sucker of adult coloring books. I have a few piled up on my shelf long before coloring books went gaga last year.

WHAT IS BIGGEST CHALLENGE OF BEING A BLOGGER?
Kristylle Gene: I guess for me the biggest challenge of being a blogger is how to be consistent on terms of the number of blog posts to publish in a week. Life’s responsibilities can always catch up once in a while, and I find it hard to always create a post if there’s more important things to be done. Don’t get me wrong, I love blogging but sometimes, we need to choose between blogging and the other priorities in life, and I have to choose the latter. I am working on it though, committing to find time and strategy for me to deliver. 🙂
WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO JUST STARTED BLOGGING
Kristylle Gene: Don’t let any idea slip. Bring a pen and a paper or create a memo for blog posts on your phone. Write every idea you can think of. Google is you best friend, if there’s something that you need to fix on your blog.
LASTLY, IN THE FUTURE WHERE DO YOU HOPE YOUR BLOG WILL TAKE YOU?
Kristylle Gene: My blog is not just a personal space now. It’s merely a space in the web where everyone’s free to visit, I hope I would be able to inspire more readers. I’m looking forward for more opportunities, may it be meeting new friends and more experiences to share. A recognition would be something that I won’t be expecting but if there’s any, then I would consider it as a bonus! 🙂
There you have it folks. Thank you for reading. Stay tuned next week for another edition of The Blogger Spotlight.

This is such a great way to know more about bloggers. I’ve known Kris for quite some time now as I was her trainer before and she was very timid but has great potential. I’m glad she ventured into blogging too.
Hi Kris, I’m so flattered that I’m one of your faves. Hehe, thanks much! Keep the blogging fire burning! 🙂
“The biggest challenge of being a blogger is how to be consistent on terms of the number of blog posts to publish in a week.”
— I feel you on this one Kris 🙂
Agree with you.. #StruggleIsReal 😀
#relate on the struggles mentioned in terms of blogging especially on posting frequency and prioritized items over blogging.
It’s always so nice to meet new people. To meet new bloggers, even more interesting. Kris wanders is a blog that I have visited before. I surely can advice others to go over to her blog. She writes very nice 🙂
You got that right Sabine.. Kris indeed writes very nice 😀
I really agree with being consistent. It’s also my biggest challenge as a blogger.
I’m not sure if I ever met Kris in person. Anyway, it’s nice knowing her virtually and hopefully in real life na nia pod, because #HIBsters! Haha 🙂
Such a good read and a piece of motivation for a wanna-be-awesome blogger like me. Hehehe 🙂
I can definitely relate to Kris’ challenges. Whenever there are more important matters to attend to, the blogging gets left behind, making it hard to improve – or even maintain – the number of posts that you’ve set out to achieve.
As a newbie blogger, you are an inspiration to me. Right now, I am still figuring out my blogger persona’s core values. You already know what you wanted. I hope that I will be able to know my blogger self better soon. Good read!
Definitely an inspiration. I am one of those who are new to this and I am loving it 😀 Good read (Y)
So far, the hardest part is being consistent. lol…
Seems that’s everyones struggle Sir
“Bring a pen and a paper or create a memo for blog posts on your phone.”
This is true. Unless you have can completely remember 100% of your life’s history, this rule is a MUST for anyone who wants to survive life.
Love the tips.. 😀 Consistency..
Consistency really is one of the biggest challenges to most of us bloggers. But we do what we gotta do because we love blogging, right? Haha. Nice knowing you, Kris!
Content and consistency are the keys to the kingdom of best blogging practices. They may sound simple but achieving both is harder than one might suggest. I hope that fellow bloggers put this into heart.
Nice feature, Herbert! 🙂
I would agree with the others too. Consistency is one of the hardest challenges in blogging. Nice motivational feature Sir Herbert. Thank you fr sharing.
Hi Kristylle Gene! Regards ko nimo! Hehehehe! I agree when you said, “Bring a pen and a paper or create a memo for blog posts on your phone.” 🙂
