TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND HOW YOU GOT INTO BLOGGING?

Ella: I’m Janine Ella, a 23-year old mom working as a full time Software Engineer. I started in Tumblr back in 2011 because that was the hype back then. Early 2012, when I was taking my OJT I created another blog in Blogspot because I had this girl crush in college who also blogged and I wanted to be like her. I didn’t really have much knowledge in blogging and I’m not really into it yet so I deleted it. Mid 2013, after giving birth to Zayn, I moved back to Tumblr and created a personal/lifestyle blog called The Zee Life. That was the time that I have grown to love what I’m doing. I blogged about food, posted OOTDs, and mommy diaries. After a year, I decided to move to Blogspot because I was disappointed how passive the audience on Tumblr were (no offense to Tumblr users, okay). So I was back again on Blogspot but after a year, I finally decided to self-host and move to WordPress. The rest is history.

WHERE DID YOU GET THE IDEA OF YOUR BLOG’S NAME?

Ella: My previous blog was A Blissful Blog but when I bought that domain I did not realize how many other blogs had the same name. So I had SEO issues. That was when I decided to change it and make it more personal and related to what I really want. It’s actually funny how I came up with Wandering Ella. I was in the shower and many names popped into my mind. I wanted something about travel combined with my name. So when “wandering” and “Ella” popped, I thought it was the right one.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BLOGGING?

Ella: Aside from being able to learn from fellow bloggers and meet online-turned-real friends, blogging has opened doors for me and made me come out of my shell. It made me realize that I should believe in myself and in what I can do

WHAT IS THE NICHE OF YOUR BLOG AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE IT?

Ella: I categorize my blog as a Travel and Lifestyle blog. Before it was Fashion and Lifestyle but I kind of got tired of posting OOTDs and realized that fashion blogging isn’t just for me. I decided to re-categorize my blog into travel because that is my ultimate dream. I have always wanted to go out, see new places, and seek adventure because it was a life I never had. When I was in high school, I’m not ashamed to say this, but I only went to SM Cebu once and Ayala Cebu once. Imagine that! I was a hone-school-home kind of girl back then. So this time, I want to live the life that I dreamed of and share my stories through my blog.

ARE YOU MONETIZING YOUR BLOG? HOW DO YOU MONETIZE YOUR BLOG’S TRAFFIC?

Ella: Yes, but I’m not really focusing on it now. I do have ads on my blog but I haven’t tried cashing out even once because it hasn’t reached the minimum amount yet. Lol. I accept paid posts and other kinds of advertising but I rarely get them as well.

WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION FOR YOUR BLOG POSTS?

Ella: Everywhere in the world wide web. Haha! I read lots of blogs especially on weekends and when I read something good, that’s when something comes into my mind. There are times that I want to create my version of that blog post but I put a twist to make it more personal.

BESIDES BLOGGING, WHAT OTHER INTERESTS DO YOU HAVE?

Ella: Photography! Ever since I got into blogging, I wanted to learn about photography. You see, this generation is more drawn to visuals and aesthetics. People love sites that have great photos. And that’s what I want for my blog too. I want to learn how to take good photos and shoot, shoot, shoot.

HOW WAS YOUR BLOGGING SO FAR? HAVE YOU RECEIVED AWARDS AND RECOGNITION SINCE YOU STARTED?

Ella: It’s pretty good actually. Opportunities came in and yes, I have received recognition as well. I have no awards yet since I haven’t won anything for blogging but I have been nominated in two big blogging awards last year. I was nominated in Bloggys 2015 under Lifestyle and Hobbies category and I was nominated in Best Cebu Blogs 2015 under the Best Cebu Photo Blog category. It may not be much for someone else, but for me it is. It makes me even more inspired and motivated when people recognize what I do.

WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO JUST STARTED BLOGGING

Ella: Blog with your heart. Blogging is not a piece of cake. It requires effort, time, commitment, and passion. It’s not as easy as writing a post, publishing it, and sharing it on social media. No, blogging is so much more than that. When you blog, always blog for the right reasons. Don’t do it because you want to be a lootbagger and get a handful of freebies and perks. Please, don’t

LASTLY, WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR BLOG IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS?

Ella: To be honest, I haven’t pictured it out yet! I am hoping my blog has already established its brand when that time comes and that people are flocking in to look for travel ideas and must-try food adventures.
